Biography

My name is Steve Rose, im from England, but i live in the Netherlands and i play electric guitar and bassguitar
When i was 11yo in '76 my father gave me a beat up semi-hollow jazzguitar and taught me the basics of JL Hooker and Lightnin Hopkins blues.
So i played guitar until i was 23, with a Welson DS3 semi and later on a Kasuga Les Paul as my main guitars.
During that period i was influenced by ZZ Top,Johnny Winter,Black Sabbath,Rose Tattoo and ACDC. I played in a few bluesrock and jambands during that time. Mostly rythm guitar as i wasnt very proficient at playing solo's yet.
Then at 23yo in '88 i picked up a Westone Thunder 1 bassguitar after listening to Iron Maiden and that sparked off a 16 year period of playing bass. During that time i was influenced by Iron Maiden, RHCP, Stuart Hamm and taught myself how to slap, tap etc.
Again i played in a number of jambands and crossover rock bands.
Then at 43 in '07 my interest in electric guitar came back after again listening to the album that probably influenced me the most when i was younger : ZZ Top's Tres Hombres.
So i picked up playing 6 string electric again and havent stopped playing it since.
I still play bassguitar but mostly for recording purposes and an occasional jamsession.
My instruments are a Squier Stratocaster and a Les Paul thru a Fender Hotrod III tubeamp. An Ibanez Tubescreamer into a RAT pedal and a Boss Chorus for flavour.
My bassguitar is a Yamaha RBX375 5 string bass strings set up as EADGC sometimes dropping the E to a D.
I use an Ashdown 300W head into a Polytone cabinet with 4x12 and 3x 8 speakers.
Cant be bothered with the hassle of playing in a band these days, i like the occasional sessionwork on projects and of course jamsessions.
