I'm now retired and have been ticking off things from my bucket list. One of these was learn to play drums.
I started having lessons around 18 months ago with a local drum teacher. She has taught me to read percussion music and is a fantastic teacher. Very patient. I got my first drum kit just before Christmas 2016 as a combined 40th Wedding anniversary/ Christmas present. It is a 6 piece Mapex M series in birch. It's around 9 years old but is in beautiful condition. I've also added some Istanbul Alchemy cymbals that I bought second-hand. These sound fantastic. I changed out the drum heads which were still original Remo to Evans 360 dry. I also fitted a ported bass reso head.
Musically, I have been a lifelong Pink Floyd fan, hearing them first in 1969 while still at school. As a teenager, I was very much into Hendrix. My tastes have changed over the years and I currently listen to and enjoy music from US band, Blackberry Smoke, (who I saw live in London March 2017) and the fantastic London Grammar whose female singers voice is just ethereal.
Drums. Around 18 months
Nothing apart from my phone at the moment sadly
