Hypnotic track from ArkRockStudio. Soprano sax comes and goes. Kind of new age meditation music. Clear you mind, breathe deeply...etc.

Just trying to fit with this. Kind of like a flute type approach and bringing some melodic direction within an ambient track.

Free Jazz? Yea we don't charge much. I'd thought of it as more more "New Age" ambient. No matter. Glad you like.

I really like creating things like the "jamey abersol" play along stuff where there is a fundamental solid groove with a song like structure or vamp, where you have a chance to solo and play over.

I am so glad this wasn't anything like the Abersold backings. Would be running in the opposite direction if it were. I'm not a fan of mainstream or standards...all death warmed up and trying to recapture a precious era of jazz, but not understanding the basic point: They were not trying to codify anything, they were breaking away from what came before and interpreting pop tunes of their day in clever variations. Just the concept of "standards" is lost to begin with...standards to whom? 70+ year olds like me? It's like copying all the seasonings in a recipe and forgetting to put in the meat. Technical drivel that only attempts to demonstrate how good one's chops are. Those guys from that time would be totally disgusted by a musical art form that stopped and didn't evolve. Abersold is part of a museum culture that trains musicians to be music teachers of the same failed paradigm.
Sorry about the rant...but I certainly like what you composed and find it so much more creative than anything that comes from Abersold or his ilk. +0

very cool stuff Wade. I am always amazed by the way you make the sax give new dimensions to different styles of music. Like the original ambient track, too.

Great ears you've got bluesdog. The original is indeed pretty special with it's ambiguous pulse and ambiguous chordal structure. So glad you also "get" that a sax doesn't have to sound like a jazz cliche...it's just another instrument with infinite possibilities.

the image that comes to my mind listening to this mix is that of a lonely human swimming with a shoal of manta rays, or giant jellyfish on Saturn for that matter, trying to communicate...but that's just my take. Would be interesting to hear what directions and emotions other instruments might add to this wonderful ambient track...

Hey OliVBee. Well I hardly broke into a sweat over this one. Just a long time to concentrate on anything for my addled old brain. Thanks for the listen and feedback.
