As well as a great vocalist, Gary has a rare talent for picking brilliant jams like this and realising what will work vocally. Even my nutty stuff.

Yes profanity directed at someone is unacceptable If you are referring to bastard. I don't believe that is considered swearing but I could be wrong :o

Interestingly enough, I have just been watching the excellent Netflix series “The History of Swear Words” fronted by Nicholas Cage.

Apart from being riotously funny it deals with the etymology of six common swear words and looks at their power to shock over the years.
With input from academics, actors and comedians it posits that (for example) the “S” word has pretty much lost all power to shock and the “F” and “C” words are heading the same way…
I remember actually being quite taken aback when Lennon used the “F” word in “Working Class Hero” many years ago. Now we’d think nothing of it despite the fact that as recently as the eighties we had the “parental advisory” sticker debacle which (IMHO) actually had rather racist undertones.
Contemporary opinion polls suggest that racial slur words are the ones that we find most offensive today and they have no place on W/L or anywhere else – unless perhaps as “reclaimed” by the likes of PE and NWA.
So, a profanity engineered to attack others in any way seems to fit the policy but a word used sparingly and within the context of a lyric seems to me to not to be problematic. Here the “B” word is used by one character in the tale directed at another. I gather from the series that “I don’t give a damn” at the end of “Gone with the Wind” had to be fought for as within context and not swearing under the Hayes Code.
Anyway, if you called Gary a hard-rocking muthaf****r or described his performance here as “The SH**!”. He’d likely be very pleased. Quite right too. +1
