Very nice improvisation on Hartmut's template. The ending caught me by surprise though (in a good way - it left me startled for a second, fully expecting more to follow).

Thanks for your comment, Patrick... I was perhaps trying too hard for the tone on a soft reed, so there were quite a few moments where the reed stuttered

No to me it sounded just right - that old style rock sound. I just don't seem to be able to get that sound anymore (combination of age and the wrong reed). I always used a 4 reed with a 7 mpc but I think I need to change - cant get younger but can change the equipment :D

I've always veered towards wider tips on a soft reed... quite the opposite direction to you. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing, but it seems to work for me
On this track I was trying out a Jody Jazz Giant 10* on a 2.0 Legere synthetic reed (I can't do with fettling cane reeds)
I also play a 10* Andy Sheppard mouthpiece... Both are a lot more comfortable to play than might be imagined, probably due to the curve on the rails... The Jody Jazz is less bright, which I thought might sound OK because I'm a bright player +1

I have used a 2.5 Legere synthetic with my OttoLink7* and I agree - just pick up and play no messing about. Some experimentation is called for:)

Yes that's been a problem - trying to justify buying an expensive mpc when it's just a hobby. And no guarantee you are going to sound any better. I am tempted to try a SYOS mpc. I think you can return if not happy.

SYOS may still be a bit of a lottery
If you're in the UK, you could contact Ed Pillinger... He makes really well crafted mouthpieces in a variety of styles and he can advise you. I have found him very helpful and he gave me the option to try and return and also the option to try and then return to change the facing (if you find the right sound but facing needs to be adjusted)
I don't have any affiliation, apart from owning and playing some of his mouthpieces) +1

Hi Wade
Thank you very much
The soft reed kept digging into some notes due to my lack of control, so since then I've gone up a quarter strength and it keeps the goolygags away +1

Sometimes when we get that kind of sound it fits! You've given this a whole heap of character.
