Red bench in the Sun (story)

Nobody sits on the red bench in the Sun, it has a history.
Walk quickly past the red bench in the Sun for fear of what you might see.
Many years ago two lovers used to meet, the\'d sit together watching the sea.
Then one Sunny day Mary heard George say \"Mary, will you marry me\"?
He held out a ring, birds began to sing as he bent down on one knee.
But Mary\'s face turned white and she closed her fingers tight because of the sight she could see.
George\'s image did fade, disappearing into shade - in a sudden falling mist he was consumed.
Now Mary sat alone, chilled to the bone. It seems that their future was doomed.
It was a strange event, where George had sat there was a dent
like some mighty force had struck relentlessly.
She called out his name but her lover never came
all she saw was a red cloud above the sea.
Every day after that, the crying girl sat on the red bench in that very place.
But the Sun never shone since the love she lost was gone, no, she never again saw his face.
Now Mary grew much older and her beating heart grew colder
George\'s final image haunts her memory.
Shrouded in mist, did he really exist or was it her creation, a surreal mystery.
Now, where the couple courted that seat remains distorted. the story is passed on throughout the years
Until the day a guy with a metal detector came by, and what he found renewed the local\'s fears
Buried underground, a treasure he had found, small and gold and round, need I say more
Now the seat is just a shrine covered with a creeping vine, the subject of mysterious folklore.
The ghosts still remain but my story is done
That\'s why no-one can sit on the red bench in the Sun.
