Done a couple of gigs recently with the covers band I play in. It's a (mostly) '60s covers band but we cover a genre called 'power pop'. The Beatles, of course, are a perfect example of this - quick and punchy songs. But there were hundreds of others (The Monkees, The Hollies, etc) out there playing similar sort of music. The basic premise of power pop is short and sweet pop songs (usually under three minutes). We play a lot of '60s hits but not the ones people expect!

This template is an example of the sort of thing I have to play. It's simple but I enjoy simple, exposed playing like this. Really focusses the mind on the quality of playing rather than being clever.

Ramped up my overheads to try and get a bit more '60s clatter to my drum sound.

Hope it's useful.

Enjoy.

No HD option as there's barely any reverb on this mix anyway.

I hope so. Kinda hoping for that Beatles/Monkees kind of play, especially some McCartney Hohner-style bass 😀
