There are times I wish I was Mike Mangini or Charlie Benante. But I'm not. Nevertheless, despite being so far out of my regular playing zone, I just couldn't resist a go at this phenomenal template from the prolific Cody! It was a challenge to say the least! Overall, the track reminds me of a Tony MacAlpine album I used to listen to.

I had to mark out the sections in Reaper then I recorded other loops first so I was properly warmed up. I had one run-through before recording. Then went nuts. I've no idea how these proper metal drummers can keep this stuff up for two hours.

There was no way I was going to manage more than a couple of attempts before my arms went on strike! It did take one punch-in and then a few corrective edits at mix-down to tidy up the worst bits.

Thank you Cody for sending me waaaaay out of my comfort zone. This was awesome fun to record - I've not enjoyed myself so much in ages.

Enjoy.

a drummer i can suggest you to take a look in metal (if you didnt took already), in Nicko Macbrain, he is the best!

Bizarrely, I have actually met Nicko (I used to write for a drumming magazine in the UK). He is a great rock drummer who always plays with enormous power and plays the right thing.

He's also very, very funny!

Thanks, Kenny! You know how much I love Dream Theater, etc., but to be able to play like those guys is another story entirely!

Thank you, Danny! It's a funny style for me. I do have a rough idea of what to play. It's just getting, in particular, my feet to be able to do it! Hence all the mad tom stuff - it makes up for the fact I can't do it with my double pedal which is how the proper thrash guys would do it! :)
