First chapter: cut those fingernails ;)
He is the Jimmy Page of Bass players. And serious contender for the best album cover ever award ;) .
P.S. just in case, we never make fun of bass players, this is just a coincidence. Could have been double trombones or triple triangles, just saying

wtf!! haha I'm more impressed with his back and shoulder strength than any music he might have played! Damn!! What is that, a little guitar stuck in there too on top of those 2 boomsticks?? :O Crazy stuff.
Not sure, looks like a Mandoline. I tried to google for more info, could not find any. Weird and wonderful :D
'Tis a thing of beauty...
Geddy Lee of Rush used to play the twin-necked Rickie 4080 giving him one bass plus a 12 string - always looked like he and Alex were over-equipped on stage when Alex had HIS twin neck and they were both fiddling with pedals - But our Tony seems to have two four-string basses - not sure what that would be for other than playing "Walk on the Wild side" live (and you'd still need 4 hands).
This guy below though - he got it going oooooooooooonnnnnn!

Mandolin with a sympathetic string
First of all one could think of it as a "Drone" instrument similar to a Sitar which also has a drone string along with the other strings. The instrument is definitely not played like a Mandolin. Second, music needs to be written or composed by a creative individual who wants a new and unique sound in the context of their own music. Third, the instrument does not need to be tuned like a mandolin however it works best tuned in 5ths at any pitch not just A440. The instrument can be easily played with a slide. Or it can be strummed or plucked with the right hand and the left hand is placed over the bass body to access different chord choices. Like a piano in that regard. In this configuration single notes are not preferable, however the right person with a creative mind and skilled practice can come up with a unique manner of playing it. Forth, it is used in solo instrumental breaks by itself, it was not purposed for playing with other instruments, it is totally a solo instrument. It's best to think of it as a small harp.
