Forgive me as Ive always been a paying member since 2015 or so. I only know Non Supporting members have limitations.
I only bring all this up as I’ve seen it repeatedly and it really came up again around Thanksgiving . Looks like you were already addressing it.
I really wish I could find that forum post from Thanksgiving time 2023 where the three newbies were confused ready to give up. I just remember TeeGee was on that thread. I answered one of them and the other two stated they now understood and were thankful as they couldnt upload.
I know that there are FAQS and you go out of your way to explain to Newbs how it works.
Unfortunatley not everyone seems to be reading everything or rather knowing where to look prior to their first upload.
They get lost in the downloading and uploading as well playing their part, then they are trying to figure how to reupload to the tree (all technical stuff) and then tasked with understanding supporting /non supporting status.(Monetary stuff).
As I stated , I believe this to be a presentation issue on the side of Wikiloops. You have the information and resources but newbs arent finding it even though it’s there is all.
I do believe also when a non supporting member uploads and tries again , there should be a much clearer error message that explains they used their one chance up and need a supporting membership to proceed. Because they are currently "not clear" what is going on , it creates frustration at the repeated attempts afterward and they are more likely to just give up.
A clearer message would point them to the support /donation page and for a simple amount...problem solved and they are on their way.
This was the main issue in that forum post I keep mentioning.
As long as you are aware thats all that matters.
Please don’t take away quickie and cheap gift memberships. Instead of gifting gift cards to people I don’t like at Xmas I much prefer spending the money here and passing out small and inexpensive membership gifts to random people who deserve them. It brings a lot of joy.
Thanks.
