Dead animals of the 4-legged persuasion, AOL and Netscape...seems there`s a conpiracy to make me feel old. Ah well, as I`ve only just been informed that 3 of the 4 strings on my bass aren`t simply for back-up purposes... always wondered about that.

Some of those AOL install disks are going for over $1000 on ebay.

we had a bank of 100 modems, external modems to provide dial-up access to people. none with any volume control...screeching modems all day, it wears on you.
later we got the US Robotics Courier modems, they did have volume control and all was peaceful once again.

There was a hayes command ATM0 if I remember correctly that would have muted the speakers.
Assuming they were hayes compatible modems.
No help now of course :D
