Thursday 28th May - Today Aimee Asks!

" What is the BEST and WORST thing anyone has ever said about your Music ? "

The best thing was very recently when someone wrote that I have developed my own style and I got a follow-up mail from someone else adding ..."and it`s also quite listenable". Nearly made me cry.

Worst thing: "Sounds good" when I knew that everything about my upload was pure garbage.

Well Aimee, I think the BEST comment would be
"You sound like Kate Bush"
The WORST comment would be
"You sound like Yoko Ono"

Best are probably someone noticing the subtle differences. Someone may call out something and it's great to know it was heard. A funny one that sticks out is by our very own Shamika, she told me I should get a thesaurus :D:D (PS - One of the great things about Wikiloops is we can joke around. In this case, I think I commented something like "cool" this and "cool" that...so the response was funny :D and fitting and true all at once )

As far as worst, I'm not one to keep those in my head...not sure I can recall a worst comment.

I've had interesting ones that make me lookup a particular band or artist, those are fun ones.

That is a hard one... I think the one that gave me a moment of wikigasm is when someone mentioned that my playing reminds him of Frank Zappa (which is ludicrous but I still took it) 😁. I guess there were a couple of times when I got a polite nod from Dick when playing live with him on the wiki meetings that meant a lot to me, even though I am pretty sure it as more of a polite encouraging thing.

The worst? One day I finished a song, lyrics deep, melody ok, solo ok, and I had Mrs. Gee listen to it on headphones. She listened to about 3/4 then took the phones off, made a non commitment head movement and said nothing 😩

The best wasn't really a comment but an amused look at me on stage, with my feet alternating up/down to the rhythm while I was also playing bass. That was by a girl/woman who later became our lead singer, and also the gf of one of the guitar players.



Oh brother - how I know that feeling! Mrs wjl is just like that sometimes... :o

The ultimate killer comment most Wikiloopers will have heard from their significant other at some point is of course 'sounds like you put a lot of effort into it' which translates into 'you could have spent that time with me and I would have been way better tuned than your guitar could ever be'.

Having said that, although Mrs. Gee has a GREAT taste in men, her taste in music is diabolical. She hates the voice of Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Mayfield, she does not like Frank Zappa at all, do I need to say more? So maybe it was a compliment after all :D :D :D

My PAST visit would be to the 2nd Century when Leicester (home town} was an advanced Roman settlement, we still have the ruins of bath houses and mosaic floors, it would be so interesting... but they didn't stay long, I think it was too cold :)

I don't want to visit the FUTURE, it might be too depressing :( but to keep Aimee happy I'll travel 10 years forward to see if wikiloops is still around :D

For the past:
Maybe to a point of some historical debate. Like seeing the pyramids being built or that big monolith/obelisk they left just sitting there. Something like that.

For the future:
Just a few years into the future so I can memorize some winners in major sports and come back and place huge bets on the winners :)

I would go back in time and look at the moment my ancestor Pinkus stood before Kaiser Friedrich and was rewarded for bravery in battle - at least this is what our family history says... Future, I will hopefully watch one of my grandchildren play for Manchester united 😂

I woke up this morning with a disturbing thought, I can't remember what my dead relatives sounded like. So today I would travel to talk to them.

But if that wasn't an option, I wouldn't travel back in time. A modern person wouldn't last very long alive in the past.😁
