I've already switched to it. Was using Ableton for years then Cubase for the last few months. Never realized Reaper worked on Mac. Cool stuff. Already have a bit of a workflow. Super stoked!

Id like to bring a stock Reaper plug in to everyones attention. try this on your master buss .
REAXCOMP
It has presets from the top drop down.Try them while the mixed track is playing. It will squeeze out dynamics very nicely.
Its a multiband comp so is a great start to multiband.
If you have Reaper , dont overlook the Cuckos free plug ins that come with it. They are actually very good.
Are they sexy to look at...no.
Do they do a great job ...yes.

Remember: Compressors not only keep instrument volumes peaks level and consistant but when you use compressors or Limiters (Which is still a compressor ) on a mixed song, theres a sweet spot where if you mash the song down , the instruments pop out of the speaker clearly and you get dynamics, and presence and clearity.
Mastering limiters are still a compressor and always used on the master buss. A compressor works too.
Also with bass and low endyou can use multiple compressors at different points in the chain and really bring a punchy clear bass out. Theres no rule. You may find four compressors on a bass track really bring it out.
Multibands only compress in the frequency ranges you tell it to.
So you can compress the E and A string frequencies on a bass differently for punchier lo end without destroying the clarity of the D and G strings..etc..
Also you can compress 120 hz and lower on a track to make the low end "punchier and crisp".Yet ignore everything higher so you dont start squeezing down on cymbals etc...(Cynbaks are amongst the first thing destroyed by "over compression. Always check how cymbals sound in a mix.)
Most plug ins for "Dynamic Enhancement "are simply Multiband Compressors

The quickest way to find a songs bpm is if you have an effects unit with tap delay. You simply tap like a kick drum to the beat and it’ll tell you the bpm. Takes 15 seconds .[youtube]TMAWV__4jQc[/youtube]

I used to have FL Studio, which I got on quite well with. I tried Reaper once, but when you're used to one DAW, another one seems far too complicated.
In the band, we decided to use a DAW, so I had to familiarise myself with Reaper, and I think it's great.
Especially with all the SWS and ReaPack extensions, I haven't really missed anything yet. Except that the I/O is missing in the tracks by default. I always have to do that via the mixer, but oh well ^^
