Just thought i'd post this! @ MasterK
The Mackie Onyx Blackbird 16x16 firewire interface is not supported on Windows 10. It works fine on windows 7, and no issues for those that use Mac. Basically it won't allow the device Matrix (on screen mixing desk) to download, and therefore says "No Device"....
So after speaking with Mackie tech support>> this is the current state regarding compatible systems that can use this interface. :(

Posts frequency stretches over millennia on this forum so 10 years later is not much. This is my current rig, my lovely .Strandberg Boden Plini Edition Neck-Thru. And my Quad Cortex with some analogue pedals going into a Fender Tone Master FR-10. All that is hooked up via a Focusrite to my (Linux) Manjaro PC on which I do all the recording and stuff.

Been using this setup for a year and a half and since the latest QC update I'm finally satisfied with the tones I get out of it. From Ambient to to heavy, it does it all.

you are absolutely right, and it is always delightful when someone fishes out these gems from the deep and forgotten pool of historic threads on Wikiloops!

Ah the memories... Master K has not been active for many years, same as with my buddy Incivanpico.

Anyways, since my posting all these years ago my rig has changed a bit. So the current recording setup number 1 is this:

1 Pignose amp, powered by batteries (I found that connecting a power supply makes it hum.

1 or two microphones

Behringer UMC404HD interface

Acer Diabolo laptop

Cubase 10 Elements with a few non Cubase tools and additions, that sometimes make it crash :D

This is my setup when I record some simple tracks where I don't need any effects, I just use the Pignose to dirty up the sound. Sometimes I might place a big pillow on the pignose and Microphone, that allows me to crank up the volume to the max.

Cool to revive this thread, love it!

And yes, TeeGee's little Pignose amp is quite astonishing, love that one, too :)

I'm still using what's listed in my profile as well, which is:

- a Squier fretless Precision Bass with Fender round-wounds
- sometimes a Tech21 VT Bass DI
- a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen) interface
- mostly Ardour, on rare occasions Reaper on either Debian or Arch Linux
- and for the Christopher upright bass I use a Røde NT1-A mic

That Tech21 uses analog circuits and also adds a bit of hum, so in #300426 for instance, I let it away and went in directly. I didn't even use amp sims in that one, just a high-/lowcut, a mono compressor, and a limiter on my single bass channel as in the pic below.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Here's current state of things, it gets torn down & rearranged often so kind of a mess.

So my recording setup number 2 is playing through my Roland GR 55, from there directly into the Cubase. The Roland is an amazing tool, very complicated, but has a lot of very cool features. I installed the special pickup and control box permanently onto the Strat.
