So, I've got a vaguely testable hypothesis: the Earth is alive, we are part of that life and if we stray too far, like more than a few light minutes away, we'll be unable to return to the base Earth consciousness when we sleep, so we'll be fekked. Fun fact: nobody has ever been more than about two light seconds away from Earth.
