JoeOnBass Yes it is, through the Tech21 DP3, it's a little beefy but I like it. :-) +1

SoulFingers It‘s very present in the mix, I like it! I never tried MMs myself but have often heared that they never sound dull, even with old strings +1

JoeOnBass This particular one has a jazz pick-up at the neck, so it opens the usual MM dullness, the pedal helps give it a tube boost, more hollow, that cuts through on the recording. I have a MM Big-Al, virtually the same set-up but just a single double-humbecker pick-up. It's not as punchy at all. More like a MM sound. +0

SoulFingers That‘s interesting, especially the tube boost. I use that a lot on my P basses and it seems like that gives a very beefy sound that cuts through well. I always liked Flea‘s MM sound but also know that he hits the strings quite hard. +1

JoeOnBass Strings help too, for my particular sound, sadly, I use EB super slinkys, the pink ones 45-100; but they wear out after about 3 weeks of recording daily. Great sound new, but short lived. +1

SoulFingers I made that experience too... and sometimes it takes about one or two hours before new strings have the "best" sound. I think it was the Rotosound strings that needed some time to develop that "punch". +1

JoeOnBass I have had a set of Flatwounds unopened for almost a year, I have yet to try them. It may provide something new, I should try them some day. +1

SoulFingers Flats can make a P bass sounding almost like an upright. Sean Hurley is an excellent example, his sound is awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAxY35fp1aU +0
