Can I give you a tip for transcribing a melody in rhythm and harmony with the instrument of your choice?
Personally, I use the tabs that allow me to select the section of of the main melodic theme. Then, with my voice (my harp or any instrument), I play "over" it to be in complete unison. I improvise again and again on this little bit of the chorus or verse: I try arpeggios, I try long notes in harmony in the right scale, I also try to find different rhythmic patterns, I change octaves... etc.
With all these different pieces, I can have a collection of different things that I can then "copy and paste" into other places in the original piece.
In short, I find it easier to improvise on small sections than on the whole song.
Try it sometime, and tell me what you think of this technique... ;) +2
