I think the flatwoods will also do the work. But I have new the "black nylon tape wound" and I like it on my acustik bass. it's a brand new fehling

Great sound dude, i was thinking of getting some flat wound string for recording to stop the scratch sounds, what are your thoughts??

I think it depends what tone you're going for. I started using flats because I hated the finger noise I was getting from rounds and the warm sound is great for playing reggae, dub and blues. I prefer the brighter sound of rounds for funkier stuff although the finger noise still bugs me...
