Believe it or not but I am very fond of Opera, have possibly heard over 300 different Operas, so I want to start an Opera blog where we can share Opera arias from You Tube that we like. So here is one of my favorite arias with Maria Callas.Costa Diva, from Bellini's Opera Norma which I have seen 3 times and i cry every time i hear this aria.Nils .;)

A hauntingly beautiful rendition of 'La mama morta' by Maria Callas, an aria from the opera Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano.

So many great versions of this well known aria and It's good to see it being passed on from one generation to the next. This 9yr old was self taught by watching you tube videos. She won Holland's Got Talent in 2013, what an amazing performance considering her age at the time. :o

This is another favorite opera by G.Verdi.Nabucco. This is from the opening gala in the Oslo Opera House with a choir of those who have worked on building the opera.

My favorite female opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa who often shows her talent and versatility by venturing into other music genres.

May well throw in a bit of controversy. The end of Act one Tosca always gets me. Puccini, ever the dramatic, creates a real monster in his ultimate corrupt authoritarian Baron Scarpia. Puccini sets out to make a strong statement about corrupt power and it's very close association with the Catholic Church. The music says it all without translation. The visuals of this ultra modern production are more than a bit disturbing. The second video of the same scene is more conventional but serves as reference that's closer visually to what Puccini may have expected.
