Moving to France. But where?

I thought it would be cool to ask if you have any specific areas in France that you would recommend as a place to live? I worked in the band/orchestra at the Casino and Sporting Club in Monte Carlo for several years and love the Côte d’Azur but have also been looking at Bordeaux and Toulouse. Are there other areas that you think would be good to live and how do you rate those three areas I mentioned? Thanks for any help you can offer. Kind regards. Alex

Thanks for the reply Mark. My wife and I have lived pretty much all over the world and the longest we’ve ever stayed anywhere has been in NZ but the time is nigh for a move back to Europe. The US was never on our horizon although I have lived there for a couple of years in NY the state of the country and its politics doesn’t fill me with a lot of desire. Thailand is fabulous and I’m sure you’d be very happy there. We feel a place somewhere in central or southern France best suits our needs and those of our children. I’d really like to hear from the members of WL’s who are or have been resident in France for their take on the areas that float their boat as they may offer some fresh avenues for exploration. Cheers😊

Will you have to work in France too? Do you need an urban place or a lost dreamy one?

Good questions Chris. We are open to the location but would prefer a warmer more temperate climate and local ‘work’ as far as I’m concerned would not be of paramount importance and my wife works from home. Cheers😊

Thank you Shi. It’s a move that will require a lot of planning obviously but we are 100% committed to making it happen☀️☀️☀️

Hey Alex,
Come to Reunion island... a little limited in terms of buiseness, but very pleasant for visual relaxation :D;)

hi friend Alex

May be a good starting point to make a first selection in the following link :

https://thegoodlifefrance.com/5-annual-jazz-in-france-events-youll-love/

you have plenty of practical information (living in France , Region of france).By focusing on the Hot spot of regular Jazz festivals, you can sort and choose places where there are Sax schools. so job of teachers opportunity.

We are currently looking at Mallorca Mike. It looks ideal. I stopped there a number of times when I was doing the cruising band work and I think we’ll nip over for a few weeks for a holiday when the Covid restrictions allow for a relatively pain free holiday. Mario is in Malaga so not too far away. But it looks like Mallorca could well be the destination of choice for us now.

Beware the German tourists - not the audience for Jazz heroes IMHO...

Good one Erwan - but they forgot to mention Vienne IMO. Beautiful place as well:

Fortunately we would not be moving with my playing in mind if that’s what you’re referring to? Whoever those jazz heroes are I don’t move in their circles. I do most of my work in my studio. Playing live is not something I’m also too bothered about in front of German tourists or any other nationalities for that matter😊 Our motive is family orientated and making the most of the years ahead in an environment that is suitable for us. The proximity to mainland Europe is also of great importance. Fortunately we have a number of good friends who have lived there and it comes highly recommended although they didn’t mention anything about the jazz scene there😄 but as I said it really is of no consideration on my part😎 there are many jazz heroes and I’m certainly not one of them. A happy journeyman musician making a reasonable living has been my life and I see no reason to wish for more.
Anyway….back to the topic of now….where in Mallorca?🤣🤣🤣
