Forever, Probably

So I was asked the question and yes [Spoiler Alert] I
can confirm that the narrator is dead. He clearly finds
the time that his lover/soulmate spends visiting his grave
infinitely precious but would like her to talk to him
more when she is there.

As we all should of course, whether it's close family, someone
who died fighting for their country or just a grave that looks
like it needs some care. So next time you find yourself in that
position just have a (one way) chat, nobody minds and even if
you believe they can't hear you, it certainly can't hurt.
And it might be good for you.

As R. L. Stine (and although he WAS also in the Goosebumps
movie HE was played by Jack Black - keep up) so eloquently
says there;

"every story ever told can be broken down into three distinct
parts: the beginning, the middle … and the twist.”

The twist here being that through most of this you assume
that the narrator is being a bit condescending "sit down
and talk and we'll fix this..." with a relationship
that died when they stopped being able to do that...

...That actually wasn't the case and problem was that he
died. So "No way to stop it when you don't see it start" takes
on a whole other meaning. For instance pay attention to signs that
your body isn't happy and don't die of embarrasment (lecture over).

How a dead person is singing a song is clearly a problem for
some but I can assure you that this kind of stuff happens in
folk songs just about all the freakin' time - so dont you be blaming me,
I don't make the rules. (Well, not all of them and certainly not
the important ones.)
