Guitar strings talk to each other sometimes,
Making shifting patterns of complex rhymes,
And pretty soon you realise,
That they're telling your story.
It seems a lot older yet sounds brand new,
Neither sad nor happy or even true,
Just life in the blink of an eye,
With a vision of glory.
You see, heart strings play together sometimes,
Even when we've all forgotten our lines,
Looking to the wings for a prompt,
Hearing only a sad song.
Dark little secrets we lock in our hearts,
Will shake themselves free as the music starts,
But we sail them close to the wind,
And they sink before too long.
You and I though, stick together sometimes,
Still making it tick on nickels and dimes,
Checking out the view from the top,
When the wheel stops turning.
"Onward!" you cry and we never look back,
As something always comes out of the black,
The Hot sparks will leap from the hearth,
If the fire's still burning.
Making shifting patterns of complex rhymes,
And pretty soon you realise,
That they're telling your story.
It seems a lot older yet sounds brand new,
Neither sad nor happy or even true,
Just life in the blink of an eye,
With a vision of glory.
You see, heart strings play together sometimes,
Even when we've all forgotten our lines,
Looking to the wings for a prompt,
Hearing only a sad song.
Dark little secrets we lock in our hearts,
Will shake themselves free as the music starts,
But we sail them close to the wind,
And they sink before too long.

Still making it tick on nickels and dimes,
Checking out the view from the top,

As something always comes out of the black,
The Hot sparks will leap from the hearth,
If the fire's still burning.

Love it - that bass sound is very cool- and a great take on the lyric. As Dash1 rightly said in the notes for his awesome "Torn and Twisted" lyric, it's always amazing when you write something to hear different interpretations, this one certainly fits. It was more "Tom Petty" in my head I think... two very different ways to go and both great. Thanks!
