Singapore Slings at Marina Bay,
Watching those sunsets melting away,
Talkin' 'bout you and me and our f**ked-up lives,
Street kids coming on out to play,
Money men mooring their toys away,
The feeling we might have made it still survives.
Ooooh yeah, my baby so high,
Riding on a Fire Dragon,
Somewhere up in the sky.
The sea birds cry when the sun goes down,
And fairy lights twinkle all over town,
The Hawker centres exploding with noise and smells,
Your hair is dry but your skin is wet,
We promise each other we won't forget,
Barely aware of the tolling of distant bells.
Ooooh yeah, my baby so high,
Riding on a Fire Dragon,
Somewhere up in the sky.
Been a while now since we were together,
Sailing our way though dangerous weather,
Breaking apart on the rocks of a foolish game,
Sometimes I still go out to the point,
With a bottle of gin or a Chinese joint,
Howling at the Eastern wind I call your name.
Ooooh yeah, my baby so high,
Riding on a Fire Dragon,
Somewhere up in the sky.

Singapore. A fascinating place in so many ways.
An Island off the Malay Penninsula less than 100 miles north
of the equator. Its history dates back over 1,000 years but
it became an important trading post in the 1800's and is still
an major port as well as being a "Tiger" economy and financial
centre.
Ethnically it's (approx) 75% Chinese, 13% Malay, 9% Indian and
a few percent "other" including us pesky westerners. Singapore
loves food - and if you love a variety of Asian cuisines, it's
not to be missed.
A "Singapore Sling" was purportedly invented at the famous Raffles
hotel there in the early 1900's. Widely thought of as the national
drink but of course you can get one most places - even Boise, Idaho.
Here's a recipe from Australia claiming to be authentic
Don't just sit there fiddling with that chord progression, go mix one.
Or maybe ask Shi - you never know what she has on that trolley.
"Marina Bay" is a reclaim in the SE which has a lot of financial business
on the south side and as you would expect a fair number of bars and
restaurants. Plus some seriously loaded folks with some very big statement
yachts.
"Hawker Centres" are prolific and are basically food courts - many open air.
Delightfully chaotic and exactly where to head for the best eats.

Dragons, as you are likely aware, are hugely important in Chinese mythology.
There are many descriptions and stories but the "Fire Dragon" is the "Autumn"
Dragon in the Zodiac. The major signs occur on a 12 year cycle (as most know)
but there are also five elements which cycle as well (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood
and Fire) so "Fire Dragons" are on a 60 year cycle (1916,1976,2036 etc)
BTW You also need to account for month (Inner animal) day (true animal) and
hour (secret animal) of birth if you are doing it properly.
Anyway, Fire Dragons:
Although the narrator speaks of a "Chinese Joint" (one laced with opium) you
should mark well that Singapore has a zero tolerance on drugs and penalties
are severe - Don't do drugs kids.

Qualities: Sentimental, Practical and Organised.

Secret Need: To know their patrner's expectations.
