Down from a mountain of sorrow,
Flows a river that's filled with hate,
Winding down to the valley below,
Where the needy people wait,
And they fill their bellies,
As they praise their God,
They bare their backs to the crack of the whip,
And the searing of the rod.
And the mountain man is smiling,
They obey him they way they should,
He casts an eye on a miserable world,
And believes that it is good,
And he feeds the heartache,
As he feasts on pain,
He knows for as long as they sing his song,
They will never be free again.
But somewhere below the mountain,
Comes the peal of a single cry,
A lone woman stands by the side of the stream,
With her fist raised to the sky,
"I won't taste your poison,
I won't bend to please,
Better one second of fire in my heart,
Than a lifetime down on my knees."
A lightning bolt from the mountain,
Shoots out to strike her down,
But she raises her broken body up,
And then slowly turns around,
To see another standing,
And then two, then three,
And before too long ten thousand strong,
While the men with the whips all flee.
Now the mountain man is running,
But with nowhere left to hide,
He can plead for his life at the feet of fate,
But he knows what it must decide,
An unworthy ruler,
Of a world destroyed,
And the valley rings with the sound of screams,
As they cast him in to the void.
