I used to have a heart that was made out of straw,
Back before I even knew what it was for,
And it was bright and breezy like a summer's day,
But it was too damn easy to get carried away.
---
And then the big bad wolf blew into town,
A-huffin' and a-puffin' my way...
And everything fell down.
Well, I learned my lesson and I learned it good,
So I got a new heart made of Hickory wood,
And it felt a bit harder but it still felt right,
Though I found that it ached in the dark of the night.
---
And then the big bad wolf came back round,
Throwing matches right into into my heart...
And everything burned down.
So here I am now every night on my own,
With my heart locked up in a castle of stone,
A prison or a sanctuary, who can decide?
As I stand on the walls and I stare outside.
---
I see the big bad wolf prowling around,
So every now and then I relent...
And let the drawbridge down.
Back before I even knew what it was for,
And it was bright and breezy like a summer's day,
But it was too damn easy to get carried away.
