Do you know who will most likely enjoy your music ?
Could you describe the typical person your music is aimed at ?

I'm talking, age, gender, music experience, lifestyle, occupation, social and family status etc.

Towards the end of middle school, meaning I was about 14, 15, or so, I used to be best or second best in class. But those who were not that much looking on their scores had longer hair and guitars and the most beautiful girls sitting and listening, which was quite some wake-up call for me I think... ;)
So yes, bought a guitar to punish my ma (joking), but in fact I think the opposite gender was the driving force for me for a long time...

Well my mum went much too early, she was only 55. Maybe she'd like my music here, I don't know, but at these earlier years in my life, it was more like in https://www.wikiloops.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=3399#post_24383 I guess :)

Good question. Keeping in mind music preferention of various generations probably music first is for friends, family and people with similar age.Optionally blues, rock, funk and partially jazz can be with better auditory. As we are experimenting here and learning daily we can adjust what we want to achieve.

That's a good question. Sometimes we don't know who's listening in on our music here. I wish I could find the post, but someone, maybe Dick, posted a thread or something about an older/elderly person tuning into Frankie's (I think it was Frankie) guitar playing, and that they loved it (maybe there was a therapeutic component, I don't recall). They weren't a member, just a listener, if I recall correctly. I wish I could remember the context and find the thread. It was a cool read.

I just want to say that I am still searching for the person I have in mind when I make a song. I want someone who notices little 'moments', subtle changes that take my songs in different directions. I want someone who likes to play my songs many times so they can understand the lyrics and feel the same emotions as I did. I want a listener who hangs on until the very end :)

OK, I get lots of 'likes' but I prefer it when someone says WHY they liked it. My music never moves people like I want it to. My best audience is probably one that likes to laugh and be entertained, while actually I really want to make people (and myself) CRY!

I'm a bit like rootshell I guess, I write for myself and I am my best audience.... even if I'm a critical one !

Shamika, you have a real talent for making me think about stuff I never did before ;)

I was obsessed with music (still am to a certain degree), always had the urge to play music, tried to start my first band when I was 12 but that did not work out exactly - we did not have instruments other than one spanisch guitar. I actually remember writing my first song for it, and showing the lyrics to a girl in my class. I vaguely remember it being about the new band, something like "...the two little boys, who make a lot of noise" Classic rock and Roll :D :D :W

Anyway, when I got to 16 years old and got really serious with my music, I wanted to be a musician and play for audiences. Any. That did not work out in the end, but I found playing guitar and singing songs about my life had good resonance with the girls :D (Mrs. Gee was an early victim of my guitar snaring technique)

Nowadays, nobody really cares to listen to my music except me and a few family members and friends, so I play it for myself. The music I like, sort of Rock Blues Prog Rock is old (mainly) men's music anyway. The Herring King Band albums and a few of the albums I made on Wikiloops are made mainly for me and the other band members. For me so I can listen to it while riding my bike or my car - I don't listen to them every day but once in a while.

Because the amount of available free music is overwhelming (Spotify, Youtube, Bandcamp,++++ , it is no surprise that nobody will listen to mediocre home made music.

_____________________________________________________________________

Let me tell you in a short story the purpose of this email.
I am a caregiver for my 90 year old mother.
In December 2021, my mother was restless and stressed because of her severe arthritis illness and other conditions of care. I was looking for a way to help her manage her anxiety that got to the point of losing sleep. I knew she liked instrumental guitar music, so I searched the web, until I found your website.

It was there that I found the best instrumental guitar music I have ever heard. Melodies from ROBJOL, FrankieJ, OLIVEBEE, Zuleikha L, Woodstock and Frank Mill, Balfo and many others, have helped me assist my 90 year mother into a calm relaxing state.
She loves all 79 songs I have managed to record for her in CD's and in my phone, to be able to play back to her, every single day since January this year (2022).

I needed to write to congratulate and profoundly thank all these musicians for the recordings of the most beautiful music my mother and I have heard in years.
Thanks to them, my mother is in better health and sleeping regularly, as we continue to have have 2 hour daily sessions of this music.

Therefore, my mother and I want to express our immense gratitude to Wiki Loops for starting this fantastic website that encourages musicians to post their wonderful and extraordinary inspirations.

Together, the musicians and Wiki Loops have brought a little more passion in a 90 year old ladies’ life.

May God bless you all.

Yours truly,

L.A.L and mama Isabel"

"Two little boys who make a lot of noise"
Wow, I'd love to hear that song... anyone?

Rock "mainly "men's music" ?
Whoa... quite a stereotype comment there :) so I'm assuming us ladies must prefer sloppy ballads or Boy band Pop? You're probably right actually :@

"Nobody will listen to mediocre home made music"
Let's not assume listeners have taste and good ears - mediocre sounds better the more you hear it.... nothing to do with quality and choice, just exposure.

There should be a blindfold test like Cola/Pepsi or Butter/marge - play an amateur song and a signed artist and people won't know the difference in many cases.
