I am a fan of Stanley Clarke.
He is considered one of the best bassists in the world.
He plays $18,000 Alembic Basses.

So WHY would I spend $2000 on a SPELLCASTER STRATBASS that there is no evidence of Stanley Clarke ever playing one?

First off ...Strat body bass. YAWN.

Secondly....NOONE HAS EVER SEEN HIM PLAY ONE. EVER. Theres absolutley no evidence he ever has.
None. Not one photo other then the advertisement shows he has ever picked one up.
Stanley has NEVER played this bass.

Third...ITS BIGGEST FEATURE...It has a tremelo on it so you can go out of tune quicker. Because we all know everyone loves whammy bar bass. We all know Stanley is a master of the bass whammy bar dive bomb.

Even the advertisement doesnt sound confident you will even like it.

The company that makes it ,"Lieber", isnt very well known and its because Fender DUMPED this bass endorsement because the idea was stupid to begin with. So the manufacturer wasnt even the first choice and only agreed to make it to get their name out there using Stanley.

If you are a bassist then you can probably see the absurdity of product endorsement.

Blood shoots out of my eye sockets anytime I see this abomination.

The ONLY explaination I can think of is Covid cost Stanley money from not touring and its a shameless cash grab.

seems like a gimmick, even the advertisement of "when the time comes to play that song with a bass solo, this is what you want in your hands" :D

The Guitar Pick Punch for when the economy is so bad, you cant afford guitar picks anymore.
When its that bad, you need to cut up your credit cards anyway.

The guitar cigarette holder. But what if I decide to smoke a cigar?
Lay into the Rock God pose and watch that cigarette fly off and burn the drummer.
Burning lead vocalists is actually a positive feature.

I wonder what the target audience is for ads and products like this one. But as always marketing stories develop their own dynamics like the review on Musicradar:
"Designed by Tom Lieber and that great innovator of bass guitar Stanley Clarke, the Spellcaster is something completely different for mavens of low-end thunder. As the name suggests, there’s more than a little inspiration coming by way of Leo Fender’s blueprints for the world’s most popular electric guitar design."
So suddenly the bass is not only endorsed but also designed by Stanley Clarke.
I wonder, will I ever get a signature triangle model? MySounds plays a gold plated triangle that sounds like nothing you`ve ever heard before.

From my understanding, he originally had Fender willing to do it , then they dropped it. By the time he went to Lieber, it was already designed. Another half truth.
What also gets me is it being a NOT approved Fender , where are the parts from?

People have searched all his fan boards. Noone has ever seen him play one.

Why a Strat Bass? Why a whammy? Where did those ideas come from thinking thats a hot selling point? Its like someone who doesnt know the first thing about bass guitar , created a bass by looking at Google for 5 minutes.

Try slapping that turd. Every time you thump the lower E with any force, its going to be a quarter to a half step out of tune because the bridge isnt even fixed to the guitar.

Considering the force a bassist exerts on bass strings during a live performance , it casts an out of tune spell.
