What constitutes a "cover" on WikiLoops?

I occasionally see a message when trying to listen to a track that says something about the track being removed due to being a cover etc etc. Does that mean the chord and/or melody is a direct copy of a famous song or is it enough that a recognizable chord progression is used and that makes it a cover? Just curious thanks!

Good question... and I don't have an answer to it. Although I think that the track deletion message is "worded this way by default" when a track is deleted, but the exact concept should perhaps be known to the webmaster :)

Yes, as you know we cannot have covers on Wikiloops, and if we detect that someone has been using a cover, it is removed, as simple as that. It may be part of a song or a famous riff - has to go. One has to understand that we cannot go into a conflict with anyone outside of Wikiloops, we don't have the time nor the resources, and in case of doubt we remove a track. Yes we use a "standard" text but we try to send the "victim" a PM explaining why it was removed, unless it was REALLY obvious. Just trying to ah ah ah ah stayn alive ;)
