Where do my Children Sleep Tonight?

You and I were once refugees,
My-oh-my we've come so far,
Down this path of twisted logic,
To this place where we now are.

And we never see our value,
If we only count the cost,
And we know just where we are now,
Yet we know that we are lost.

When in the world will it all be over,
When will we ever see the light,
And why-oh-why can't someone tell me,
Where do my children sleep tonight?

And a midnight "sun" is shining,
Through the bars of this prison cell,
Innocent till proven guilty,
We've forgotten that as well.

Though the shrapnel breaks your body,
Though the fire burns your skin,
It's the cries of dying children,
That destroy you from within.

When in the world will it all be over,
When will we ever see the light,
And why-oh-why can't someone tell me,
Where do my children sleep tonight?
