These cans have really good reviews, can I really get all I need for 98 euros ( just over 100 bucks)? I am not a professional studio but do mix stuff to put on wikiloops and for other people I play with. Are these going to cut it or do i need to spend more to really hear what is goin on in the mix? Anyone own a pair of mdr7506's? what do you guys think?many thanks. Z.

Good question, and I'm interested in answers too, since my Sennheiser HD560S - which I love - need at least some new earpads... and I can't afford to go for individually calibrated ones like in https://store.sonarworks.com/collections/individually-calibrated-headphones
I'm using Sonarworks as a plugin in the monitor bus of my DAW, and they have a profile for the Sony MDR-7506 of course, since it's also a widely used one, maybe more for tracking as it is a closed type headphone, not an open one. Should still be good I think...

You can spend a small fortune on gear but diminishing returns after a certain price point. Your work always sounds good Wolfgang I trust your judgement.,🙂

That's true - and thanks for trusting my judgement, and also for that nice comment :)

Just looked up when I bought my headphones, and it's just a bit more than 2 years ago. I don't have those pictures on Flickr anymore, but my article about it is still on my blog:

https://wolfgang.lonien.de/2022/03/sennheiser-hd-560s/

Within that article, I also posted a link to someone on Reddit who is known as "oratory1990", please see https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/list_of_presets/ - and for that Sony MDR-7506, here are his eq presets, and the resulting curve:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8skzrvn8bnpb2mreac1yk/Sony-MDR-7506.pdf

As you can see, you can get the frequency response quite flat with a bit eq'ing, so even without some paid software like Sonarworks, you'd still be good to go...

I just ordered replacement earpads for mine, still really happy with those...

Good luck,
Wolfgang :)

I ordered the MDR 7506 through the link to the Thomann store on wikiloops. Not only 35 euros cheaper, including delivery, than Amazon even with Prime ! Wikiloops picks up a few euros along the way it's a win win.
