Do you have nostalgic memories of hanging out in music/record shops?
Do you have one near you?
Did you buy any recordings or musical equipment for anyone for Christmas?

Yes I have fond memories of record stores and music shops in the late 50s early sixties specially one in South Street, Romford because it had sound treated booths for listening to albums before buying them, they always sounded amazing with the sound system they had. Their was also an old man in Romford market that sold chord books and sheet music etc. another favorite haunt. Great nostalgic flashback, thanks :W

i guess 4/20 is also record store day. i grabbed some vinyl last 4/20, as well as some herbal remedies :)

i still look on discogs.com for vinyl, my last record purchase was about 30 days ago as a record i wanted came up on a good price. when i was younger, i would go into Sam Goody's and check out music, but especially Guitar Magazine, which they had on the shelfs there. they would have the guitar tabs to songs so i would go in there, sort of memorize the guitar tabs and go home and play the songs :) it was a fun time for sure :W

Yes. Throughout the 70's and 80's I could always be found at one of the local music stores.
It is still a wonderful feeling walking into a music store and seeing guitars hanging all over the place. :)

There's a little shop in my village called Nervous Records and the owner ran it for 40 years so he's saw many good and bad years but apparently his customer base is much younger now with people looking for original records from the 60s and 70s.

In the summer, I went to a record store that looked exactly like a store from the 80s. But not to buy records, I took my 19-year-old daughter there because it was like a museum visit for her. 😂

our little local shop usually does well I believe. I think they would have live bands at some point too, not sure if they still do.

In Chicago , during the 70s, 89s, and 90s this was the record store to go to ...Hegewisch records.

Artists like Pat Benarr, Cheap Trick and even Van Halen on their first tour stopped in here. The Smashing Pumpkins were conceived in this store.

They even sold bootlegs which was very cool but not for the artists..

Cheap Trick:

Van Halen at Hegewisch

They also sold bongs and pipes in the backroom

10 miles from my house and Id easily ride that by bicycle and be carrying records home.
The guy at the counter would sell morbid crime scene photos on the side. People with no heads and motorcycle accidents ...etc...

Nowadays if you want to meet and greet Cheap Trick just go to the Home Depot store in Rockford Illinois on a saturday in the lawn care section. Youll see the entire band if you are patient.

Nothing screamed "Im COOL AND I SMOKE POT!" then seeing these tee shirts. These Hegewisch shirts were very popular and saw them everywhere

Nick, the shop is still there, I've passed it and it looks open and exactly the same but I guess the guy isn't there any more. Well spotted, it's hard to know which facts are correct sometimes. I haven't lived here for very long, just heard about it on the grapevine :)

The Left Bank, Paris St, Exeter in 1967. A Mecca for those of us living in rural locations with no access to records. Sadly no longer exists.

There was a record shop in Weymouth on the south coast, it was called Austin's believe it or not haha.. they had the booths and headphones for listening, that was 53 years ago.
I always liked the small independent shops.
