June 1st: we brought our small one to the train station. Now she's back some 140km south of here, and closer to where she's studying...

I'm watching the movie Collateral, but I never make it past the first quarter hour because I always go back to replay the beautiful music. Again and again.

Hello June
*had a very quiet weekend, Mrs. Gee and her friends went on a weekend to Holland
*did the usual weekend stuff, incl. cleaning an'd organising my workshop. Its so small, got to keep it tidy otherwise can`t find anything.

*Now here comes the rant :o : why the duck can't you buy the same clothes or shoes or other things again??? I know for instance that if I want to buy another pair of Altberg UK motorcycle boots that I bought 30 years ago, I can. And actually the company even offers resoling service. Why can't others do the same??? 2 years ago I bought a LOUIS/ BÜSE motorcycle jacket, it took me a long time to find one that had a classic look, was not leather, waterproof, removable liner, and could be worn even when not riding. Was VERY happy with it. Then I had an accident, and the jacket was destroyed. Go online, Jacket is no longer available. WHY???????? 2 years??? Same with shoes. I had a pair of Bugatti shoes I wear for work, nothing special, but very comfortable. Looked good. Want to buy agin...no chance. Don't make them anymore. I don't have a problem with modern stuff, but for duck sake, why do I have to constantly search for stuff rather than just order what fits and what I know works for me??? :(

Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom motorcycle is waiting but I don't drive. Lost the drive to drive. How find the drive to drive again? When I sell it I would miss it. So I don't sell it.

Back from Morocco 🇲🇦 where we spent one week of vacation. Special dedication to the mosquitoes :)

June will be the medical checkup month (lungs, stomach, hearth, tennis elbow…)

And yes, I’ve stopped smoking since March 17th

That's a nice one - I once rode the bigger sister V-Strom 1000 on a Suzuki event at Villa Löwenherz in Weserbergland. Nice one, too - I almost didn't feel my wife sitting behind me with 100hp :D

I was more interested in the SV 650 S tho, and also glad to ride back home (to Bremen at that time) on our Honda NTV. Shaft drive is still the best - just fuel her up & go :)

Edit: just looked up the year, that was in 2003 I think... my wife took a photo with her digicam:

As for today (June 2nd, 2025) - what I just wrote in the Shoutbox:

"Did my 10.000 steps for today, went to the doc for a prescription, now looking at that trolley..."

I feel you, bro. So did you find another nice jacket? How about one of those classic Belstaff wax jackets? Always wanted one...

I'm missing affordable Harris Tweed jackets around here, can't go to Scotland to get one. Had a nice one of these, but I can't find it anymore...

It was this jacket, it's not waxed but it has a membrane so water proof.

Dear Diary!
Seeing Wolfgang on his motorcycle and also TeeGee's super cool leather jacket lets me think about planning again a short motor trip on two wheels.
I propose a jamming somewhere on the Eastern Schwäbische Alb.

This wasn't mine, it belonged to Suzuki Germany. Mine is this one:

Can't ride mine at the moment - it has no TÜV, and also no license plate. And at least the battery should be dead like a mouse... but in your area, there are some cool motorcyclists, and they have a board in usenet (in case that still rings a bell). You can also find some info at https://rrr.de/

Tuesday, 3rd of June: today we'll have a repairman coming for our washing machine which gets louder and louder (she really does the rock *and* the roll by now) ;)
The cat is just back from her 3rd stint outside, have to feed her...

Wednesday 4th June

I have been watching the BBC series THE PIANO. Amateur pianists of all ages, genres and backgrounds perform in Railway Stations for travelers. Most have a story behind their circumstances. I was particularly surprised by a young guy called Zak. He comes from a poor district, and looking at him you might be expecting a streetwise Rapper...... actually he plays a medley of Classical pieces, Chopin, Beethoven etc. I found this YouTube of his audition performance. I like the friend in the crowd, completely backing his playing. Listen to the end, it's not long, it's worth it.

19 years...

Wednesday, 4th of June 2025: yesterday's repair guys looked at our washing machine, and it's what we call in Germany an economic total loss ("wirtschaftlicher Totalschaden"). Means that the machine would need some very expensive spare parts, and even then it couldn't be guaranteed to work for a while.

We've had the same with our equally old Toyota Corolla some years ago, 19 years seem to be the age when things decide to leave us for good. I feel a song coming up with "19 years" as a title... ;)

Edit: my motorcycle will be 31 this year, that one is "unkaputtbar" (unbreakable). Knocking on wood...

@Wolfgang: how old is the washing machine? I tend to repair most of my stuff alone, in many cases it's not that expensive to buy the parts, even used parts can work sometimes. If there is noise it's most likely to be a bearing on a wshing machine, or a damper if it's the spin cycle. Or a spring broke?

The thing that makes it uneconomical is usually the hours of the technician, if they take 80-90 €/h and they spend 2.5 hours + travel, you reach a non commercially situation for a bearing that cost 20 Euros...a new washing machine might cost 350€.

They looked up the costs for the dampers which would have been 120€, without work. And the machine was 19 years old and also produced rust lately, all of a sudden when white went in, what came out wasn't white anymore. So yes, not really economical to repair it I guess... and my wife just ordered a replacement, hoping that they still build them that good...
