Hi All,
I'm a recently retired software developer living in the state of Michigan in the sad old un-USA. I've been a guitar player since my high school days, and all along have aspired to play jazz and fusion. I grew up in Chicagoland and used to listen to WXRT religiously, my favorite weekly show being "Jazz Transfusion" of course.
I've had guitar lessons on and off over the years, but three years ago in preparation for my retirement, I started taking jazz lessons and have been sticking with it. I got myself a DAW and have been learning the engineering by recording my own arrangements of jazz standards. You can find them at https://waldobear.substack.com.
What brought me to wikiloops was the realization that while I can follow a groove, I'm not much good at creating one. I pretty much suck as a drummer. So I started scouring the web for drum loops that might fit with some of the tunes I've been working on, and as it turned out, #5160 did the job real nicely! I used it on my most recent effort "Song For My Father". Kudos to the amazing drummer that did that loop, as it totally transformed my approach to the tune and brought it alive!
I don't know many musicians near where I live, so stumbling upon wikiloops looks like it might also help me get to play with other people, at least in a remote recording studio. I'm looking forward to submitting my first remix.
Thanks
