Runnin’ barefoot cause we t’ain’t afford no shoes
We said our prayers and went to church on Sunday
With momma sittin’ watchin’ ‘oer her brood
Ya went to bed at eight, you better not be late
Or daddy’d come and belt your ass tattooed.

At the crack of dawn the rooster made his sound now
The smell of bacon cookin’ on the grill
I’d coax ole Bess to get the morning milk now
Then ‘round the table eatin’ up my fill.
With a pat on the behind, out the door to find
