The chorus section is the product of a rhythm that was rattling around my head this afternoon. So I decided to see how it'd sound on the drums. The verse section is just straight time with a syncopated hi-hat and, in the third verse, more syncopated kick that seemed to glue it together in order to make it a more song-friendly composition. In short, straight time verses with this sort of phrased, pushed chorus pattern. About it really. Enjoy and hope ...

Im biased with you Martin. There was a period around 2016-2018 you had what I think is the most awesome drum mix of anyone Ive ever heard on the internet. You were large, clear, punch and snap in all the right places.Cymbals tingly and clear.
This sounds right on track and I do believe its gonna take some time to dial everything in but I know youll get there because you already have. The levels are sounding balanced condsidering its only been a week being up and running.Im hearing Hi Hat "pish" which is good. When I listen to you on studio monitors I always expect to be bruised in the chest from your kick thump.

mpointon Thank you. And you're right: I have a lot of work to do to get back to my sound from a while back. I'm on new microphones (AKG and generic clip-on tom mics), new room (my studio) and new software (PreSonus Studio One 6) so all change for me and it's going to take a while to get the hang of. The more-damped acoustics of my studio have drastically changed the acoustics of my kit too!

My other main problem is choice of computer. My PC has way, way more plugins (Waves, etc.) but my Mac is way more powerful - my waves plugins (v.9) aren't 64-bit so the Mac won't use them :( This recording, like my last, is entirely on PreSonus's own supplied plugins and they're what I'm struggling most with. The waves ones were just easier to get a smooth, clean sound from. The Presonus stuff, so far, seem more artificial, more aggressive.

I might try my next recording on my PC and see how it goes if I go back to the plugins I know and love!

WhiteDrum55 I think it sounds more aggressive because there is plenty of overtones. I actually prefer it for mixing. I played around with it and think it provides more to work with, mixing wise, and makes it a little easier to bring out the drums in a cluttered mix. Just my 2 pennies...great track Martin! ;) +3
