Way back when I went to college and was doing studio work as well, occasionally Id do sound work as me and my friend owned a PA system and mix board. One day he calls me up and tells me we have a job at a small club so we go during the early afternoon. The artist was Yabba Griffith , a reggae artist who knew Bob Marley. After setup Yabba invited us backstage to say a prayer as Rastafarians are religious. It was an honor to be asked to be considered a "brother" so of course we obliged.
Before the prayer ,Yabba says "Hey Yo (instead of Joe), hand me that garbage bag in the corner. ". I hand him a 55 gallon trash bag stuffed with something sitting on the floor. Then he says "Hand me that newspaper.." so I hand him the Chicago Tribune paper next to me. He pours a glass of water on the newspaper then reaches into garbage bag and pulls a fistful of reefer out and jams it into the newspaper cone. He fired it up and BOOM, we were in outerspace before saying a prayer to JAH.
It was a great show and Ive had appreciation for Reggae ever since. Ill never forget the pot smoke creating a fog all the way out onto the street. The pot smoke was so thick I actually had to throw my clothes away because I couldnt get the smell out.
Drums and bass are very important to reggae. Its also a crowd pleaser.
Great job! Thanks to you and Baerenkind . Its the drum and bass groove thats key and you guys did awesome ! +1
