JeF31 Hello, on this jam I use a SX Jazz Bass with DiMarzio DP123 pickups & Rotosound roundwound strings, with the help of Vamp Behringer for recording on my computer. +1

JeF31 The Vamp is cheap but really useful for recording, even if it's not easy-to-use for live performance. +1

LittleWing I was working on my Jazz bass last night. Im playing with the capacitors. I unsoldered the .47 uf cap and soldered a .22 uf cap in. Brightened it up a bit. The main benefit is when I turn tone down I dont lose the highs as quickly.

If you like rotosounds try the Roto Funkmasters. They are very thin and bendable. Very easy to play yet still sound and feel like Rotos. Love those strings. The only negative is because they are less tension , the bass truss rod has to be loosened because they dont pull as hard.

I have so many different methods recording bass, but now Im going thru an EBS Valve Drive preamp, straight into 3 tracks. One is clean , other two EQ'd for highs and one for lows

JeF31 Thanks for sharing your experience on the gear, the SX is my first Jazz Bass, I'm usually a P-bass player! +1

LittleWing Changing caps can totally change the bass but with a Pbass, you want to keep the P bass tone its known for.
Both my jazz and P are sounding really good and get the midrange growl.
Just gotmy first P bass 4 months ago and wonder why I never got one before. I installed the Fender Custom shop Vintage 63's in it, and have the electronics the original wiring specs as the original 63 basses.
Just got thru trying Thomastik flat strings and LaBalla Low tension flats. Labella won.

I want this sound:

This is the best thomastik string sound Ive ever heard:

JeF31 On the SX the capacitor is the original one, but the pots are 500 kohms as recommended by DiMarzio. Pots value has also an effect on pickups tone. +1

JeF31 On P-bass now I use Fender flatwound and Rotosound roundwound, after a long time usage of D'Addario roundwound. +1

LittleWing This is sad but I actually have about over $500 in bass strings in plastic bags , many of which I only played 5 minutes and then changed. I’ve literally tried them all and keep going back to Roto or Labella. The fenders are very nice strings but didn’t last long for me playing heavy.
DR strings were my go to for awhile but they didn’t last very long under sweat and finger oil .

I was going thru sets every two to three weeks about a year ago when I was recording heavily.

JeF31 Fender = d'Addario to me. That's why I use only flatwound from Fender, those have good Q/P ratio. +1

LittleWing The Daddario nickels are a fave of mine to.
I do have DR sunbeams on my fretless . They are a very mellow string with some grit.
Regardless your bass sounds great . Keep doing what you are doing . It’s very punchy!
