A Wake
I will be speaking at my brother's celebration of life in a few weeks… It brought to mind other events where people glaze over the truth of the person in favor of just saying nice things.

This is rough, yet unfortunately true. The Maori of New Zealand have a tradition of passing around a "speaker's ceremonial cane", that gives the holder the opportunity to clear whatever positive or negative thoughts or unfinished business they have with the departed. This is a very healthy approach, but unfortunately not taken up by other cultures. It truly clears the air without "other's judgements", it's just each person's truth and opportunity for letting go.
