I'm changing my original plan as the format of a Pantomime seems too hard to explain :(

Simply, Pantomimes are stories made into stage shows with singing and dancing and humour. Typical shows are Disney subjects like :-
Cinderella, Snow White and the 7 dwarfs, Jack and the beanstalk,
Sleeping beauty, Goldilocks and the 3 bears,
Hansel and Gretel, Beauty and the beast, Mother Goose,
Aladdin, Babes in the woods, Puss in Boots etc.

If you've written a song that fits with any story (as above) add it here or leave a link... or you can write a new one.
It's up to you, anything goes for a bit of Christmastime fun :)

Hartmut has uploaded a new track called Green Goose. I've written a little poem to go with it as part of the Pantoloops project

The little Green Goose lays Golden Eggs
She gives them away to anyone who begs
But if you can get one, don't break the shell
Or you'll have a sorrier story to tell

No need to go to that much trouble unless you want to.

*** Hey people, you can just add a song link, a poem, story, script, joke, jpeg, or old video... anything to do with pantomimes.
Maybe search wikiloops for something appropriate or re-mix something and give it a Pantoloops title :) Come on, lets get the show on the road..

I'm afraid I have no idea what a pantomime is (yes, really!). My first thought was about acting without words (which is called "mime" in Dutch), but I guess it's something different entirely :D
So I have no idea what this challenge is about (and yes, I feel a little stupid about that haha).

History... Pantomime started in Greece and became big in Italy many years ago. It was mime at first but now it's a real show with music, acting and comedy. I guess it is more popular in England, I thought Europeans might have them too! . It was a while before it made it across the Atlantic.

I feel sure you all know the stories I have listed like Cinderella, Aladdin, Snow White etc... well in England over Christmas these stories are turned into funny shows. It's an annual happening in England. Men dress as women and girls as boys. There are fairies and princesses, villains and jokers. I'm sorry if it's all confusing :(

No need to be. If anything it's fascinating: I've never heard of something like what you describe, which kind of surprises me, as we are almost neighbors after all :D

Kind of wondering now: would something like "Blackadder" be considered pantomime?

Well as much as I love Blackadder it's not 'old' or 'simple' enough. It's always a 'Classic story' like the one's I listed. Of course each year they bring Pantos into the 21st Century and make up to date contemporary references.

I'm also really surprised you don't have Christmas Pantomimes where you are shiihs. - I'll look into it some more :)

I think there is Pantomime Shows (e.g. Christmas, humourous) on one side, and Pantomime Quizzes (more continental, more a challenge) on the other side. The concept of Pantomime Shows is new to me, I can learn from this. Looking forward to :)

Pantomimes in Germany 2023 - 2024
There are no pantomimes listed for Germany at the moment.

I seem to have uncovered a real cultural anomaly here :)

Can't find much for Belgium shiihs, but Germany has something similar called Weihnachtsmärchen fairy tale plays for children which are comparable with pantomime in England but with less humor, cross-dressing and slapstick.

Christmas time Pantomimes were a tradition in our family while growing up in London, I remember visiting the London Palladium each year from around 1950 until my early twenties to see each year's holiday Panto. I was pleasantly reminded of some of the many old time TV and Music personalities that have performed in them at this archive site
